The Garner-Thèmoin Award is presented to an individual in recognition of his or her modest, unselfish, sincere, and persistent efforts to further the advancement of Purchasing, Supply Management and Logistics profession; and whose able assistance and guidance to purchasing agents in their endeavours have eminently qualified you for one of the highest IFPSM awards.
This award is presented annually to one or two persons, recognised by an awards committee as having rendered an outstanding contribution to our profession.
Based on information from one of our former IFPSM Presidents, Mr Donald F.Cooper, the following facts were found:
The award was named after Tom L. Garner and Andrè Thèmoin. Garner was from the UK and was a President of the European Purchasing Federation (EPF). Thèmoin was from France and was also a President of the EPF.
The Garner Medal existed in the EPF as an annual recognition of outstanding achievement in the European purchasing community. Before the French branch of the EPF had an opportunity to introduce a second, similar award, the Federation merged with the International Purchasing Federation (IPF). The newly formed International Federation of Purchasing and Materials Management (IFPSM) Executive Committee chose to amalgamate the two awards and thus the IFPSM Garner-Thèmoin award was born.
