Another world first for Ireland
The Irish Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (IIPMM) association is the professional body for purchasing and supply management in Ireland.
The IIPMM is a member of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM), which is the umbrella body for 43 national procurement associations worldwide, representing over 250,000 procurement professionals.
Over 200 graduates of the Institute were conferred with Higher Certificates in Business, Procurement; Bachelor of Business, Procurement and Supply Management and, Bachelor of Business (Honours), Procurement and Supply Management, at its National Graduation Ceremony in Trinity College Dublin on Saturday 27th November 2010.
Charles Holden, Director General of the IFPSM was the Institute’s guest of Honour, and along with Dr Paul Davis President IIPMM and Tara Ryan, Higher Education and Training Awards Council, presented the graduates with their awards.
In his speech, Charles Holden noted that the IIPMM was in a unique position nationally and internationally as the only professional procurement body with a formally recognised degree programme. He also added that the IIPMM was now established as a member of the top table in terms of leadership and influence in matters to do with purchasing and supply management, particularly on the educational front. He encouraged the graduands to continue their association with IIPMM so that they could build on the vision and innovation of the IIPMM Council, exemplified by this unique occasion.
The Irish Institute is the world’s first professional body in procurement to award Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Business degrees.
Dr. Paul Davis said that these degrees accredited and validated by HETAC provide Irish Business and consequently the Irish economy with experienced and well educated procurement professionals who will play there part in Ireland’s recovery. He also noted that as formal degrees, these qualifications were recognised internationally and made our graduates mobile and attractive to businesses competing on a global basis.
